The return of tourists to France coincides with a labor problem. More than 250,000 jobs are to be filled this summer in several sectors, including tourism.
Catering, agriculture, hotels: in these sectors, the arms are lacking in France. So, the manager of a camping in Finistère must do the cleaning itself. With 100 pitches to manage, the owners are looking for two seasonal workers, in vain. On a nautical base, in the Dordogne, the challenge is even greater: 50 employees must be hired to welcome the 2,600 customers a day, in high season.
In the Bouches-du-Rhône, a strawberry producer even bought mobile homes to house seasonal workers. But today, that is no longer enough to attract them. Due to a lack of manpower, nearly 2,000 kilos of strawberries have had to be thrown away since last March. To overcome the shortage of candidates, a manager of restaurants in the Hérault is offering 1,000 euros to anyone who finds their chef.
