A Secours populaire storage center in Isère, in Bourgoin-Jallieu, was broken into this weekend and the “half of the stock is devastated”, deplores Jean-Michel Monnet-Paquet, secretary general of the Les Portes de l’Isère committee, Wednesday May 8 on France Bleu Isère. Volunteers noticed the theft on Monday. Mainly clothes and household appliances have disappeared.
“All the volunteers are devastated by what happened. We didn’t expect this kind of situation at all (…) it really saddened us,” reacts Jean-Michel Monnet-Paquet, who for the moment cannot “put a number on what’s gone.” “It really shocked us.” “It cut our legs, we didn’t even eat, we cried”testifies Chantale Guérineau, a volunteer, on France Bleu.
“Priority is monetary donations”
France Bleu recalls that this is the third burglary of Secours populaire premises in six months in Isère. In December 2023, a premises was broken into and a van ransacked in Echirolles. A premises in the commune of Vif was visited in March. Faced with this situation, the Isère Federation is considering placing its premises under video surveillance and alarm. To help the association, the president of the committee suggests “priority of monetary donations” since they do not have “space to store”. Secours populaire plans to file a complaint, as does the town of Bourgoin-Jallieu.
