Second attempt by Poilievre and the Conservatives to overthrow the Trudeau government

Less than 24 hours after the Conservatives failed in their first attempt to overthrow the Liberal government, Pierre Poilievre returns to the charge.

His new motion, debated Thursday morning, states that the House of Commons has lost confidence in the Liberal government and “is instead offering Canadians the opportunity to opt to eliminate the tax, build the housing, fix the budget and stop crime.”

We find, in fact, the slogans that the Conservatives have been using for months.

A majority of deputies voted Wednesday against a first motion of censure presented by the conservative leader. The wording of this motion was contained in a single line: “That the House does not have confidence in the Prime Minister and the government”.

This series of motions of censure in the Commons comes since the New Democratic Party ended the support and confidence agreement which granted a certain stability to the minority Liberal government since the start of 2022.

The Bloc Québécois on Wednesday gave the Liberals until October 29 to adopt two private member’s bills, related to supply management in agriculture and old age pensions, if they want to avoid a general election before Christmas .
