(Montreal) The University of Montreal has opened an investigation after one of its lecturers was filmed shouting insults during the scuffle between pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian supporters on Wednesday at the Concordia University.
A spokeswoman for the University of Montreal said a course taught by lecturer Yanise Arab was canceled Thursday as a precaution.
In a brief video that circulated online, a man in a yellow hoodie, later identified as Mr. Arab, can be seen shouting “go back to Poland!” » and another insult, during the scuffle between pro-Israelis and pro-Palestinians at Concordia on Wednesday.
Lecturer Arab’s biography has been removed from the University of Montreal website, but a previous version described him as a doctoral student and lecturer in the history department. Mr. Arab teaches a course on domination and resistance in the Arab world.
He could not immediately be reached for comment.
The spokesperson for the University of Montreal, Geneviève O’Meara, says that the information available suggests to the establishment that it is indeed Mr. Arab that we see in the video and that an investigation is underway. .
Three people were injured and a woman was arrested at Concordia University on Wednesday during the scuffle.
