Our eyes are captured by dozens of short videos that scroll constantly: scrolling has entered our lives, becoming an addiction for young people but not only. How to react?

Scrolling through videos on your phone can become a real addiction. “I spend a total of 18 hours and 48 minutes a day on my phone”confides a young woman. Three out of four French people use social networks. In a family, discussions take place with their smartphone in hand, even if it means being interrupted. “I think I no longer know how to watch TV without scrolling”observes Elodie Laloum, press officer, who is thinking of consulting.

Maxime waited 5 years to open the doors of a hospital in the Paris region. At 22, the young man spent up to 12 hours a day on screens. According to Caroline Cros, head of the addiction unit for adolescents and young adults, “there is an excitement, a stimulation, and in the end you have the same pleasure (…) as for other consumptions”.

Amine Benyamina, head of the psychiatry and addiction department at Paul-Brousse hospital (AP-HP), indicates that of the 14 young patients admitted to the day hospital, “at least four consume the screen, and it’s growing more and more”. The time spent on a video allows the platform to capture desires via an algorithm, creating a vicious circle.
