Schladming World Cup | Switzerland achieve double in giant slalom

(Schladming) Loïc Meillard won against his compatriot Gino Caviezel and Switzerland obtained a double on Wednesday, in the evening giant slalom of the Schladming World Cup.

The duo gave the Swiss team victory despite the absence of their star athlete, Marco Odermatt, who has won four of five giant slaloms this season but did not take part in Wednesday’s competition to rest a sore knee .

Both skiers maintained their position from the first run, with Meillard ahead of Caviezel by 0.59 seconds.

Meillard was the junior world champion in giant slalom and was on the podium six times in the World Cup, without however winning in this discipline. His only victory before came in a parallel race event, in France in 2020.

Canadians Asher Jordan, Liam Wallace, Trevor Philp and Erik Read were also competing but did not qualify for the second run. Last Canadian on the list, Riley Seger did not finish the first run.
