Four departments were placed on orange alert for rain and flooding on Thursday, November 30, Météo-France announced in an alert bulletin. These are Haute-Savoie, Savoie, Isère and Hautes-Alpes. An episode of “sustained and lasting rain” will be combined with “the contribution of the partial melting of the snow present on the relief, requiring particular vigilance due to the expected accumulations”. The phenomenon, which should begin in the middle of the afternoon, should continue next night and Friday, adds the agency.

Météo-France highlights “the duration of sustained rains as well as their fairly extensive geographical area” to justify the special vigilance given to the situation. In Savoy, for example,Accumulated precipitation could reach 50mm at the end of the day, or even more, with melting which will add an accumulation of around 15 to 20mm. “By midday tomorrow, cumulative precipitation could reach 100mm locally.”
