Blue Jackets beat Blackhawks 4-1

Gustav Nyquist scored two shorthanded goals, Joonas Korpisalo made 26 saves and the Columbus Blue Jackets snapped a seven-game losing streak by beating the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1 on Saturday.

Emil Bemstrom and Kirill Marchenko also hit the target for the Blue Jackets. Johnny Gaudreau had two assists.

Andreas Athanasiou replied for the Blackhawks, who have just one win in their last 12 games – Dec. 23 against the Blue Jackets. Alex Stalock stopped 34 shots.

Nyquist scored the game-changing goal in the second period, then added an empty-netter with 39 seconds left in the game.

The Blue Jackets haven’t lost eight straight in regulation since the start of the 2015-16 season.

They were without forward Patrik Laine and goaltender Elvis Merzlikins, who are sidelined due to COVID-19.

Chandler Stephenson had a goal and two assists, Keegan Kolesar had a goal and an assist while Mark Stone set up three goals for the Golden Knights.

Michael Amadio and Reilly Smith also moved the ropes for the Nevada troupe. Logan Thompson blocked 33 shots in the win.

The Golden Knights led 4-2 in the third period before Filip Forsberg scored twice to complete his hat trick. His last goal forced overtime with 3.3 seconds remaining.

Forsberg became the third player in Predators history to reach 500 points with the team.
