Blackberry picking is a tradition at the end of each summer. A special moment for some enthusiasts, especially in Saône-et-Loire.

Every year, at the end of the summer, Carol Gahagnona resident of Varenne-l’Arconce (Saone-et-Loire)goes in search of blackberries. She is an avid picker. With the permission of the owners, she roams the meadows and countryside around her home. The wild berries are deep black when ripe.

But harvesting involves some risks. “The danger is mainly wasps and hornets”explains Carol Gahagnonwho harvested a kilo of fruit in her basket in a few hours. With the heat and dryness of summer, this year’s harvest should be less abundant than usual. According to the pickers we met, however, there should still be blackberries until mid-September.
