Santé Québec: meeting of the transition committee

The Minister of Health and Social Services of Quebec, Christian Dubé, announces that the transition committee for the establishment of the Santé Québec agency will meet for the first time this Friday.

In a press release, Minister Dubé explains that the transition committee will have the mandate, in the short term, to advise the Ministry of Health on the major stages of work identified. It will establish a gradual sequence in the hope of effecting a healthy transition of the ministry’s operations to Santé Québec.

In the medium term, committee members will have to anticipate and implement success factors so that staff and managers experience a harmonious transition. The committee, made up of eleven members with various skills, will have to publish progress reports every four months, for the sake of transparency.

Depending on the progress of the work, other members could be added to the committee or be consulted for their expertise in different files.

The creation of Santé Québec is one of the major pieces of the reform of the Quebec health system contained in Bill 15 which was adopted by the National Assembly on December 9, under gag order.

The law provides that Santé Québec will be responsible for coordinating the network’s operations, while the ministry will remain responsible for the main orientations.

Among the members of the transition committee are a doctor, several former leaders of government health authorities and user representatives.
