Two people testified before Judge Annie Savard, of the Youth Division of the Court of Quebec, but the investigation into the release of the teenager will continue this Thursday morning.

The detective sergeant of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal responsible for the investigation related in particular the events of December 9, 2021, around 10 a.m., when the visual arts teacher Maxime Canuel was seriously injured with a sharp object. .

The mother of the accused, who seemed very nervous and shaken by the events, was then questioned by the two lawyers, Mr.e Tiago Murias, who represents his son, and Me Mélanie Rose, who represents the Crown.

The teenager, who was in the defendants’ box, occasionally shook his head during his mother’s testimony, but remained unfazed during most of the proceedings.

A court order prevents the media from disclosing the content of the testimony, to avoid prejudicing a possible jury trial.

Attempted murder

Four counts of attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offense and possession of a concealed weapon, were laid against the youth.

The criminal and penal prosecuting attorney has already filed a notice with the judge to say that she could seek an adult sentence if the accused is found guilty at the end of the process.

The armed attack at John-F.-Kennedy, an English-speaking elementary and secondary school in the Saint-Michel district, had provoked a large police deployment and triggered the confinement of the students of the establishment.

Distraught parents had gone to school to find out what was going on.

The accused was arrested shortly after the assault, while walking near the school.

A spokesperson for the English-Montreal school board then revealed that the student in question had “disciplinary” problems.

Social intervention teams were called to the scene because some students who witnessed the assault were in shock.
