(Saint-Hyacinthe) A pick-up truck and an unregistered electric scooter collided Tuesday evening in Saint-Hyacinthe, in Montérégie. A man is between life and death following the accident.

The collision occurred around 5:30 p.m. on rue des Seigneurs Est. The driver of the electric scooter, a 69-year-old man, was followed by a van when he decided to make a left turn, said Sûreté du Québec (SQ) spokesman Nicolas Scholtus. At the same time, the man driving the vehicle attempted to overtake the scooter.
The 60-year-old was seriously injured. He was transported to a hospital in Montreal and we fear for his life. The 25-year-old man who was driving the van was also taken to hospital for nervous shock.
Rue des Seigneurs Est is currently closed in both directions between Highway 20 and Avenue des Érables-Argentés.
An SQ collision specialist is investigating the incident to determine the causes and circumstances.
