Friday, November 17, the Communist Party will participate in the meetings in Saint-Denis. Present on the 19/20 info set, Léon Deffontaines, head of the Communist Party list in the European elections, discusses the expectations of the PCF.

Some of the opposition have decided to boycott the Saint-Denis meetings, which will be held on Friday November 17. Leon Deffontainesthe head of the Communist Party list in the European elections, confirmed the presence of Fabien Roussel. Asked about the presence of the PCF, he replied: “We do not shy away from our responsibilities. We have a lot to say to the President of the Republic. I see two major issues: the geopolitical question, notably the Israeli-Palestinian conflict (…)and the cost of living.”

On this last point, Léon Deffontaines details: “We have poverty which has jumped by one point. We have an unemployment rate which is increasing again. I dare to believe that the President of the Republic will review his copy and allow us to talk about these subjects.”

An “unbearable” situation in Gaza

Regarding the military operation of IDF in the hospital Al Shifa in Gaza, the European candidate condemns “the fact that since the invasion of Gaza, we have 22 hospitals out of 36 which are no longer functioning because there were bombings which were orchestrated”. According to him, daily life in Gaza is rhythmic “by incessant bombings against civilian populations who are trying to heal themselves as best they can”. Leon Deffontaines judges that “this situation is unbearable” and joins the UN position in calling for a “ceasefire”.
