Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean | Army called in to find missing octogenarian

(Montreal) The search resumed on Sunday to find an octogenarian hunter who never reached his destination, where other hunters were waiting for him in Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean. In the evening, the man was still missing. The authorities will continue their effort Monday morning to find him.

Marcel Maltais, a resident of Saint-Raymond, in the MRC of Portneuf, was last seen on October 6 in Hébertville, in the MRC of Lac-Saint-Jean-Est.

It was only a few days later that his relatives realized he was missing.

“In fact, this man would have left for the hunt several days ago and his relatives, worried about being without news, appealed to the authorities (Friday)”, specified Sergeant Stéphane Tremblay, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

Research is concentrated in the area of ​​Route 169, near Lac Saint-Jean and the Laurentides Wildlife Reserve.

Searches took place all day Saturday and a command post was established in the area, while Sûreté du Québec patrol officers and volunteers combed part of a forest sector on foot and in all-terrain vehicles (MTB). The Sûreté du Québec helicopter was also used.

“And then on Sunday, the search continues. Still in the area of ​​kilometer 50 of Route 169 in the Parc des Laurentides. We have ATV patrollers criss-crossing the wooded area. The Canadian Armed Forces helicopter should join the search during the day, as well as structured volunteers on ATVs,” said Sergeant Tremblay.

Marcel Maltais was driving a blue Chevrolet S-10 vehicle, 2002, registered in Quebec 056 RBY. It could tow a blue, Polaris, sport ATV on a trailer.

The octogenarian is 1.63m (5ft 4in) tall. It weighs about 66 kg (145 lbs). He has white hair, brown eyes and wears glasses. He was last seen wearing a black cap with red lettering, a black and blue checkered coat, blue pants and gray sneakers.
