The Saguenay Police Department reports that around 7:30 a.m., a vehicle stopped in front of a commercial building on Saint-Jean-Baptiste Boulevard, near the intersection of Rang Sainte-Famille, in the Chicoutimi borough. The driver of another vehicle following him then lost control of it and deviated from his trajectory and hit the tanker truck which was traveling in the opposite direction.

According to Andréanne Nolin, spokesperson for the Saguenay Police Department, the victims are a 30-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man who were on their way to work with two other colleagues. The latter were seriously injured but were in stable condition in hospital on Wednesday afternoon.

Police do not believe criminal behavior was involved.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) will lend a hand to the Saguenay police investigators, in particular in the reconstruction of the events.
