Sagarroi – Patxamama

Sagarroi was a great ska-reggae adventure in the 2000s.
Coming from a family from Irun well known for its involvement in the musical world, Inigo Muguruzawith his friends, set up this group, which started out on the first album, was rather in a hardcore style, but very quickly, the sounds softened, the rhythms became warmer, more swaying.

“Patxamama”: a call to preserve Mother Earth

The title Patxamama is a cry from the heart of the members of Sagarroi.
On November 13, 2002, an environmental disaster had affected a lot of people, all along the Atlantic coast: the Prestige tanker, loaded with heavy fuel oil, launched a distress call off the coast of Galicia, the ship was in distress, in the middle of a storm.
The Spanish authorities tried to tow it out to sea, away from the coast, but the November 19, 2002, the Prestige split in twodumping its cargo of fuel into the ocean.
A oil spill then hit the coast from Galicia to Brittany: thousands of kilometers of coastline, stuck in this sticky, smelly fuel, which is embedded everywhere, seabirds dying in this thick oil ….. the shock is huge.

The reaction of the population is commensurate with the disaster: thousands of inhabitants, local or from further afield, come to help clean up the coasts, armed with their good will.
The images of the sinking of the Prestige went around the world, and the Sagarroi group, also upset by this situation, and by others of the same type around the world, created this title Patxamama, Mother Earth, for us remember that we only have one planet and that we must take care of it.
