SAAQclic fiasco: “Is it just me or does it make no sense?”, indignant an entrepreneur

One of the co-owners of Pizza Salvatoré Guillaume Abbatiello openly criticized the $69 million amendment paid by the government for the new site of the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) on Tik Tok.

In a video published Friday on Tik Tok in which he is seen behind the wheel of a moving car, the entrepreneur recounted how he was able to hire a web developer to create a training platform for his newly hired staff.

Mr. Abbatiello therefore first placed advertisements to recruit internally, with salaries of up to $130,000 per year, without success.

“At one point I was tired of trying to recruit web developers, and then not finding any, so I started bidding on companies to make our training platform – companies from everywhere, there were from Canada, there were some from the United States, they all charged around $75,000 – $80,000 to do the development,” he detailed in a video of almost two minutes.

“We had one of our guys who was in charge of setting up our restaurants, when we opened our new restaurants, he said to me “I might have someone for you, he’s in another country, but In my opinion, he would be able to give you the development you need,” he continued.

The co-president of the Salvatoré group finally hired this developer who allegedly asked him for $3,500 – $4,000 to create the platform. This employee now manages a team of web developers outside Quebec, because according to Mr. Abbatiello, “we are not able to find any here.”

Review of SAAQclic

According to Mr. Abbatiello, the 69 million spent by the government for the new SAAQ computer system does not make sense.

“69 million to develop the new SAAQ website? Is it just me or does that make no sense?” he chanted.

“Just the Salvatoré group this year is going to pay about $25 million in taxes, and then when I see cost overruns and the budget is smashed more than 69 times, that makes me very upset,” said -he continued.

The Salvatoré group has more than 65 restaurants and 2,350 employees in Quebec. It was founded in Beauce in 1964.

“When I see a submission from a website that is supposed to cost $1 million for everything to work and then everything is on track and then ultimately it costs $69 million, I don’t understand, it just doesn’t work,” said he added.

Mixed comments

The video, which has been liked more than 5,400 times and shared nearly 1,000 times, caused a lot of reaction.

“SAAQclic, it’s not just a “front end”, it’s an ERP (SAP), you can’t really compare,” said one user in the comments.

“69 million is the price for platforms like that of SAAQclic. Only security is almost 50% of the price,” added another.

Several others, however, followed in the footsteps of Mr. Abbatiello and criticized the management of the Quebec government.
