You may have seen posters in the streets of Lille in recent days, indicating “Vote Saam, your candidate from the North”? This is not a new presidential candidate but aa Northerner who could represent France at Eurovision 2022 in May.
Saam is one of the twelve finalists in the running to be the one who will wear the tricolor colors for the great European song contest. He participates in the program broadcast on France 2 this Saturday March 5, 2022 during which viewers will vote for their favorite artist. “I’m super excited and very happy to be there in the final, he confides. I was selected from 3,000 songs, I’m like in a dream.“
Saam does “the smile party”
Originally from Petite-Forêt and living in Lille for fifteen years, the dental surgeon relies on “(s) candor, staying young, having this positive outlook on life” to seduce the public with his song “It is where?” who speaks precisely of the smile and the optimism that we need to find. “It would be a pride to represent France with this beautiful message which is universal and which will be understood across borders and beyond language barriers.“, he adds.
The message conveyed by Saam fits, for him, directly into the values of northerners : “Despite the weather, which is not necessarily there, we are known for having human warmth and for keeping our smile, which is super contagious.“
Self-taught, he learned to play music in college. He is influenced by the rhythms of English pop and rap, but also by the texts of Jacques Brel. This explains why he often addresses intimate issues, such as the relationship with his absent father or the song “Mémère” which made him known on social networks during confinement, dedicated to the memory of his grandmother.
Music frees me from a weight, from these emotions that I can’t get out of myself – Saam, northern candidate for the French selection of Eurovision
His objective is obviously to be the one who will represent France, but he hopes that this visibility will give him access to a new audience and maybe be able to tour with his compositions.
The selection of the French candidate for Eurovision is this Saturday March 5 at 9:10 p.m. on France 2 live. The grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 will then take place in Italy on May 14.
