A Russian strike in the Ukrainian city of Poltava in the centre of the country left around fifty people dead on Tuesday 3 September. A military institute was partially destroyed.
At the foot of a gutted building, debris litters the ground….Under the rubble, many victims are trapped following Russian strikes, the deadliest since the start of the war in Ukraine. Shortly after 9am this morning, two ballistic missiles targeted Poltava, 300 km from kyiv, near the Institute of Communication, a military establishment. The toll is heavy in around fifty dead and 235 injured.
The Russian strike has sparked controversy in Ukraine, with some accusing the military command of making it an easy target by gathering so many soldiers there. The Ukrainian president has ordered an investigation and reiterated a call for international military aid. The attack comes at a time when Ukraine desperately needs to bolster its military.
