New Russian bombings left two dead and seven injured in Ukraine on the night of Thursday December 7 to Friday December 8, local authorities announced. The Ukrainian Air Force announced that it had shot down 14 cruise missiles out of a total of 19 launched by Russia. The projectiles targeted civilian infrastructure and were shot down over the kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions in the center of the country.

But several missiles passed through the anti-aircraft defense, hitting infrastructure in the Dnipropetrovsk region, leaving one dead and four injured, including two seriously, the regional governor said on Telegram. Prime Minister Denys Chmygal said that another person had been killed in the Kharkiv region, and three others injured.

Russia carries out missile and drone strikes almost every night. Ukraine, strengthened by the Western military aid received, is destroying the majority of these devices, but it is demanding more resources, while American and European support is becoming more and more limited.

According to kyiv, Moscow is trying, like last winter, to plunge the population into darkness and cold by targeting the country’s energy infrastructure. Ukraine has not experienced a major power outage due to Russian bombing since last winter. But for the first time on Thursday, authorities called on Ukrainians to reduce their electricity consumption, after a strike on a thermal power station near the front.
