(Moscow) The explosion at a gas station in the Russian republic of Dagestan, in the Caucasus, left at least ten dead and 11 injured on Friday, the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry announced.
The ministry said on Telegram that two children were among those killed. Its first report showed five dead and three injured.
Earlier, the same source indicated that the technical area and the cafeteria of the gas station burned over an area of 500 m2. The ministry later said the fire was under control, but not yet extinguished.
He posted a video showing firefighters carrying what appears to be a body on a stretcher and others searching through rubble amid the smoke and glow of a fire.
According to the ministry, the station is located south of Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan, on a road towards the town of Novy Khouchet.
Nearly 120 rescuers are on site, according to the ministry.
In August 2023, 37 people were killed and 119 others injured by the explosion at a gas station in the suburbs of Makhachkala.
Accidents of this type are common in Russia, often due to violations of safety standards or dilapidated facilities.
