Rural Coordination is carrying out a strong action on Friday March 1 morning near the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, Agence Radio France learned from the agricultural union. On X (formerly Twitter), the agricultural union writes to take “symbolically and peacefully the Star” and hear “converge towards Paris”.
Nearly 150 farmers are present at Place de l’Etoile, where they have dumped bales of hay to block the avenues leading to the square. A franceinfo journalist on site confirms that no access to the Arc de Triomphe is possible. They also placed a wreath of flowers at the edge of the monument in tribute to farmers who committed suicide. A franceinfo journalist on site notes that the farmers are currently surrounded by the police.
“We want to show that if Emmanuel Macron can take over the International Agricultural Show, we can take over the capital”, says a member of the Rural Coordination present on the Champs-Élysées. It also ensures that a tractor “managed to cross Paris and circle around the Arc de Triomphe”.
The Rural Coordination also announces France Blue Paris also block the A86 and the A4 at Saint-Maurice (Val-de-Marne) before reaching the capital. “The tractors arrive at the Arc de Triomphe”, says Nicolas Bonguet, president of Rural Coordination in Doubs. He explains that he wants “talk to Parisians, show them what we do and why we are here”.
The union demands on “act quickly to save our 45% of farms in financial distress”. Farmers want to denounce the free trade agreements voted by the European Parliament with Chile and Kenya.
