Rugby player Melvyn Jaminet under investigation for “death threats based on race” after making racist remarks in Instagram video

Rugby player Melvyn Jaminet is the subject of an investigation for “death threats based on origin”, announced the Paris prosecutor’s office on Tuesday, July 16. It has been open since July 9 following a report from SOS Racisme, the same source specified. Melvyn Jaminet, a player for the French XV and Toulon, made racist remarks in a video posted on Instagram on July 6, following the first test match of the Blues played against Argentina. The 25-year-old athlete said he wanted to put “a helmet hit” At “first Arab” that he “cross on the road”.

The French Rugby Federation (FFR) immediately condemned his remarks. “with the greatest firmness”deciding to sideline him from the France group then present in Argentina. RC Toulon had also announced that it would be conducting a “internal investigation”.
