Almost everyone has a little piece of grass in their garden. But we often realize that after the summer, it has suffered because of the high temperatures or following regular trampling. When autumn comes, the rains give the lawn some color and its green gradually returns. However, some places are tougher than others and small holes persist.
Fall is the perfect time to refill because the soil is still warm from summer, so the seeds will germinate more easily. After having sown seeds of “recovering”, provided for this purpose, in the holes, the lawn will be perfect in the spring.
After this relining, the autumn rains will naturally water your lawn, but if they do not occur, you will have to come and water the impacted areas.
How to properly refill your lawn?
Start by scratching the ground where you want to replenish it.
- Remove “waste”, which is for example damaged or dry tufts of grass.
- If necessary: if the ground is not too balanced, add potting soil just to fill in the holes. This will allow the seeds to start even more easily.
- Then add the grass. One seed per square centimeter approximately.
- Then scrape with a rake the soil or soil on the surface so as to bury the seeds.
- Then all that remains is to tamp. For small surfaces, tamping with the foot is more than enough.
It is then necessary to wait approximately 1 to 3 weeks before the first shoots of grass begin to emerge.
