Road obstructions | Major work takes a break for Thanksgiving

Major work will take a break for Thanksgiving this weekend, except in the Quebec region, where the closure of the Quebec Bridge in both directions risks creating congestion.

This was indicated Thursday by Mobilité Montréal, the committee responsible for coordinating major obstacles in the metropolitan region and its surrounding areas.

If in normal times, several works multiply on the main roads of Montreal, “no major obstacles will be in place for the Thanksgiving long weekend, from Friday October 11 to Tuesday October 15,” indicated the organization .

In the capital, however, the Quebec Bridge will remain closed to traffic from Friday evening to Monday noon, in both directions.

The authorities also warn that “other closures are expected in October and November, during certain weekends and certain evenings and nights during the week, in order to continue work” on the structure.

A long-term closure of Avenue des Hôtels is also planned between Boulevard Champlain and Chemin Saint-Louis from October 15, until the fall of 2025. “Access will however be maintained to access the Aquarium of Quebec and businesses,” indicated the Ministry of Transport.

These obstacles “are necessary in order to continue the reconstruction work on the roadway of route 175 and the redevelopment of avenue des Hôtels into an urban boulevard, as part of the project to reconstruct the interchanges north of the Pierre-Laporte and Quebec,” added the government.
