After the breakthrough of the National Rally in the first round of the legislative elections, the extreme right can still hope to obtain an absolute majority in the National Assembly.
Will the National Rally obtain an absolute majority on Sunday, July 7, in the second round of the legislative elections? Some party officials are very sure of themselves. While Jordan Bardella’s party came out on top in the first round of the early legislative elections on Sunday, June 30, with more than 34% of the vote, seat projections on the future composition of the National Assembly predict a relative, or even absolute, majority (i.e. 289 deputies or more out of a total of 577) for one of them.
If this is the case, a situation of cohabitation will be established: the presidential majority will have to coexist with the main opposition force. Jordan Bardella could enter Matignon. The president of the RN has warned that he would only accept the post of Prime Minister if his party holds an absolute majority.
