What are the candidates proposing on the issue of immigration? For the European elections, some parties want to “build walls” to prevent migratory flows.

Walls between Greece and Turkey or between Poland and Belarus. These countries, among others, have erected barriers to try to slow down the arrival of migrants. Should we build walls at the gates of Europe? Currently, countries finance and close with their own budgets, but Les Républicains, Reconquête and the National Rally are demanding funds from Brussels to build more. “I am in favor of being able to finance the borders at the gates of the European Union with European money,” declared Jordan Bardella, head of the RN list.

Twelve countries have already built walls. In total, around 14% of the Union’s land borders have been blocked with walls, or more than 2,000 km. The presidential camp refuses to allow Europe to finance its barriers and the left, the Greens, the PCF, LFI and the PS are unanimous in opposing it. Despite the fences that already exist, illegal immigration is increasing. But according to the left, in other countries around the world, these barriers have not shown their effectiveness. Walls which also do not regulate the arrival of illegal immigrants by sea.
