Revolutionäre Dualtronic-Chips transformieren Micro-LED-Displays

Researchers from Cornell University and the Polish Academy of Sciences have created a dual-tronic chip that integrates electronic and photonic functions, potentially revolutionizing micro-LED displays. This innovation uses gallium nitride to enable more compact, efficient designs, lower power consumption, and faster data transmission through LiFi technology. The chip’s unique properties may also enhance CMOS component development. In conjunction, OLED television options are reviewed, highlighting various models and their performance specifications.

Recent findings from researchers at Cornell University and the Polish Academy of Sciences have unveiled an innovative semiconductor technology known as the dual-tronic chip. This groundbreaking chip allows for simultaneous electronic functions on one side and photonic functions on the other, paving the way for significant advancements in micro-LED display technology. With fewer components, reduced spatial requirements, and lower power consumption, dual-tronic chips hold the potential to transform the display landscape. Beyond displays, these chips may also be key in the development of CMOS components and facilitate LiFi communication. Similar to WiFi, LiFi utilizes visible light for data transmission, achieving speeds that can reach gigabits per second without interference, far surpassing conventional WiFi capabilities.

The foundation for these dual-tronic chips is gallium nitride (GaN), a semiconductor recognized for its unique polarization characteristics. Its distinct crystal structure allows for varying physical and chemical properties on either side of the wafer. Researchers faced challenges with the nitrogen-rich polar side of the GaN wafer, known for its high reactivity. Nevertheless, they successfully engineered a transistor exhibiting high electron mobility on one side, paired with a photon-emitting LED on the other side. This innovation enables the transistor to switch the opposite LED at kilohertz frequencies.
