Review of The Power of the Mind Is Infinite | Eman: the whole arsenal

Alaclair Ensemble’s Eman truly flies solo on his new album, a work that relies on his versatility on the mic and behind the console.

Emmanuel Lajoie-Blouin, alias Eman, is a good team player. Whether in the groups Alaclair Ensemble, Accrophone and Movèzerbe or on the beats of Vlopper and GenericTM, the MC from Quebec has always managed to stand out.

He nevertheless demonstrated Home And 1036 that he could fashion entire works. Eman proves it more on The power of the mind is infinite while this one is longer than Home and does not include as many guests as 1036.

Let’s start with these. Modlee, Valérie Clio, Amen Deniro and Kevin Kevin are there for “radio” choruses, Melvin and A$ujet rep the 418 with conviction on the ninth song, while ISMA, nephew of Eman aged only 16, impresses with the mastery of his flow on the titles Together And Eventually.

About flow, Eman employs a wide variety of them throughout the 11 tracks. He still uses autotune and his chewy style, but delivers his rhymes with rare drill-esque clarity. Everywhere, which vigorously opens the album. There are also trap, R&B and hip-pop sounds, all very accomplished. The structure of Bed and of No sweat (our wishes) even evokes Timbaland or Scott Storch from the beginning of 2000.

The depth of the lyrics matches that of the music. Thus, the rap remains simple and fun on the titles mentioned above, but is particularly refined on Your love : “Sometimes I take on all the weight of the world and I’ll sit on the bench / I dream of the songs you would have made if you were still here man”

The power of the mind is infinite is in a way the confirmation of the vast talent of a chameleon artist. Regardless of the type of beathe adapts, and since he composed them all, one feels that the variety on offer is intentional and thoughtful.

The perverse effect of such a decision is that the album aims in all directions. The quality is consistent, but not the atmosphere. Everywhere hits hard to start, but is followed by three rather quiet pieces. The same phenomenon is reproduced over the listening. These stanzas of Safari Trap perfectly illustrate our thinking: “The playlist ranges from 5-star hotels to crappy motels / Friends who have doctorates and others who have been in jail for 15 years”.
