This new disc, titled I am heatwavewill be launched as part of the Coup de cœur francophone festival on November 4 at Club Soda, in Montreal.

Two years after his first effort, We knockthe artist from Laval does not neglect his favorite subjects: bank shenanigans and rap remain at the center of Shreez’s music.

“Now it’s rap that full the fridge,” he notes at the end of the first song. From the outset, this statement seems important for Shreez, who mainly tells about his criminal past. “I’m talking to you about hit [fraude] because that’s all I know,” he says on the next song.

The winner of two SOCAN awards (Song 2019, Music hip-hop / rap 2021) assumes more of his boastful side. He knows how to rap, and he repeats it. “I am the mist that everyone vapes,” he likes to say. It also bears witness to ambition and perseverance.

The Scrapbook I am heatwave is long, and difficult to listen to in one go. The numerous collaborations (12 out of 17 songs) are probably there for something. Nothing unusual for Shreez, but he could afford to be more selective. We can’t enter his world. On the other hand, we discover some nice surprises, including Naida, the only woman on the album, who participates in the song hourglass.

With or without you, in collaboration with Lost, also offers something else to this disc punctuated with drill and trap; keyboards and synthetic pianos sometimes recall the French song. The konpa passage of Supper also surprises. Alain, composer present almost everywhere on the album, knows how to do it well.

Nevertheless, I am heatwave will not enter the annals of Quebec rap, few songs standing out.
