(Edinburgh, United Kingdom) François Legault ensures that Hydro-Quebec has “a plan B” to supply Massachusetts with hydroelectricity, even if the voters of Maine imposed a bitter failure on the Quebec state corporation by refusing by way referendum that the transport line crosses their state to reach Boston.
In a press scrum Wednesday on the sidelines of COP26 in Scotland, Mr. Legault said his government “knew that the referendum would be tight” and that Quebec “indeed has a plan b”.
“There are different routes you can take to get to Massachusetts and different routes too. We know that the American federal government supports the project, but unfortunately I cannot go further this morning, ”he said.
Maine voters voted about 60% against and 40% for the Hydro-Quebec project. This result jeopardizes the 20-year hydroelectricity export contract that would bring the state-owned company 10 billion in revenue.
