Heads of technology and product development Truth Social, the social network created by Donald Trump, announced their resignation on Monday. Josh Adams and Billy Boozer are therefore leaving their posts just over a month after the launch of this new platform.
According to Reuters, the first to confirm the information, the two men had initially been hired because of their combination of talent and conservative political opinions in a technology industry which is said to be rather liberal. They will have remained in office for less than a year. Sources interviewed testified to the leadership role that the two men occupied within the organization and consequently expressed concern for the future of Truth Social.
The announcement of the departure of these executives had an immediate impact on Wall Street. Digital World Acquisition Corp, which is expected to join the billionaire’s company, Trump Media and Technology Group, fell 13% when markets opened on Monday. Meanwhile, Twitter, whose billionaire Elon Musk has just bought 9% of the shares on the stock market, has seen its action take off by nearly 25%.
This announcement comes as Truth Social has experienced significant setbacks since its inception. Numerous computer problems have delayed the registration of members on the platform. Two days after it went live on Apple on February 20, 500,000 people were still waiting to access their account. Some users who pre-ordered the app were getting an error message when trying to log in.
The former US president announced that he would found his own social network after being banned from Twitter, Facebook and Youtube, where he is accused of having encouraged the assault on the Capitol on January 6, 2021. He promised that its platform would allow the “truth” to be disseminated free of “censorship”. While he had nearly 89 million subscribers before his banishment from Twitter, he now has 836,000 on Truth Social.
