The United States will provide $61 billion in aid to Ukraine. How did Ukrainians react to the announcement?
In the streets of kyiv (Ukraine), on the morning of Sunday April 21, the news of American aid for sending ammunition seemed to relieve the residents. “This will help us a lot. We must have something to defend ourselves, both civilians and our men”, confides a woman. On the ground, the war continues. Russia announced in the morning that it had taken control of a town in the east of the country, located a few kilometers from Chassiv Yar, the railway and logistics hub of the Ukrainian army.
Deliveries won’t affect fights for several weeks
Further south, in the Odessa region, missile fire destroyed homes and injured four people. The deliveries of shells and ammunition announced by the United States will not affect the fighting for several weeks. The Russians could take advantage of this delay to continue to further shell energy infrastructure. The Kremlin seems in a favorable position since the failure of the Ukrainian offensive in the summer of 2023. It now occupies 20% of Ukrainian territory.
