For sixteen hours now, the emergency services have been doing their best to find the last victims of the explosion of a building in Sanary-sur-Mer (Var). A mother and her son are still wanted.
A three-story building reduced to a heap of ruins. In Sanary-sur-Mer, the building exploded on the night of Monday 6 to Tuesday 7 December, and two people, a mother and her son, are still missing. Thanks to the intervention, among others, of a hundred firefighters, a mother and her baby were found, but the father, aged 30, died. The drama moved the whole neighborhood, like this man: “We saw them all born, they were the sons of my friends. The building exploded, a big cloud of smoke then when the smoke left… no more building”.
Businesses were also affected by the collapse. But the owner of a training boat puts into perspective: “The material can be rebuilt, human lives unfortunately not. I put myself in the place of the parents”. In the evening, the crowd always massed around the ruined building. Many residents are waiting for news from the last two people wanted. The emergency services will continue their search again this night.
