Tim Walz, Kamala Harris’ running mate, will face JD Vance, Donald Trump’s ally, for the “vice-presidential debate” on Tuesday 1er October evening. On the set, two visions of the world will clash. The Democrat, governor of Minnesota, rejects the very dark image portrayed by Donald Trump in this campaign. On the contrary, Tim Walz defends a joyful vision of current America.

In mid-September, Tim Walz gave a meeting in the huge gymnasium of a university, in front of 1,400 spectators heated by a country orchestra. He first attacks the former president: “Everywhere he goes, terrible cities, terrible places. Everywhere he talks shit about America because he doesn’t believe in us!” Then, Tim Walz defends a victory “happy” by Kamala Harris. “We will win this election and elect Kamala Harris, Madam President. Your future is bright and you came here today because, as Kamala Harris says all the time, you love this country, so thank you!” he shouts to the crowd.

At the foot of the stage, Nancy, a teacher like Tim Walz, defends the optimism that the Democrats and Kamala Harris are bringing to the campaign.

“The positive energy she instills, the joy, and the hope, I don’t think it’s a tactic. She and Tim Walz understand the difficulties of Americans.”

And Nancy continues: “If you only focus on the bad things, nothing good comes out of it. It’s not all bad.” A little further on, Jill holds up a “Kamala 2024” sign, convinced by Walz, whom she knows well. “Tim Walz is the governor of Minnesota, where I’m from. And he brings a lot of calm. I think we need to get back to a state where people speak out without fear. A safe state, where ordinary people don’t ‘don’t be afraid.’

“Coach Walz”as his supporters call him in reference to his past as coach of an American football team, promises to lead all Americans to victory to win the “camp of hope” next November 5.
