The Norwegian qualified for his first Grand Slam final on Friday by beating his opponent in four sets.
The thrill of discovery. Casper Ruud defeated Marin Cilic on Friday June 3 in the Roland-Garros semi-final (3-6, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2). The 33-year-old Croatian, however, entered his match better, and won the first set, helped by the accumulation of unforced errors from his rival (14). More effective then, the Norwegian recovered to equalize at one set everywhere, oppressing his opponent with his forehands along the line. In a one-sided third act, the 23-year-old impressed Chatrier with his liveliness and remarkable defending, sickening Cilic. After 2h55 of play, Casper Ruud got rid of his opponent thanks to a controlled fourth set from start to finish.
In four appearances at Roland-Garros, Casper Ruud had never passed the stage of the third round. However, the Norwegian, seeded number 8, continues to impress on clay. He is the player with the most wins (65) and titles (7) on this surface since 2020. On Sunday, the biggest tennis challenge awaits him at Porte d’Auteuil, that of overcoming the king of the tournament, thirteen times winner in Paris… Rafael Nadal.
