The Ardennes season has started. After Dorian Godon’s success on the Brabant Arrow on Wednesday, the peloton set off from Maastricht to join Valkenburg (Netherlands), Sunday April 16, during the Amstel Gold Race. 253.6 kilometers long and punctuated by 33 difficulties, this 2023 edition was marked by the seal of one man: Tadej Pogacar (UAE-Emirates).
The Slovenian, already victorious two weeks ago on the Tour of Flanders, launched the major maneuvers 90 kilometers from the finish, before dropping his last competitors 30 kilometers from the end. The only huge favorite in the absence of Wout van Aert and Mathieu van der Poel, he won the classic for the first time, and already gleaned an eleventh success this season in just 17 days of racing. The surprising Ben Healy (EF-Education-EasyPost) and Tom Pidcock (Ineos-Grenadiers) complete the podium. First Frenchman, Axel Zingle (Cofidis) finished 10th, just ahead of Valentin Madouas (Groupama-FDJ).
