One of the two caregivers who were victims of a stabbing at the CHU de Reims, in the Marne, Monday, May 22, died, announced the Minister of Health on Tuesday morning. She was a nurse and was 38 years old.
It was through a tweet that the Minister of Health, François Braun, announced on Tuesday May 23 the death of a 38-year-old nurse, victim of a stabbing attack at the university hospital center (CHU ) from Reims (Marne) the day before. The tragedy took place within the CHU’s “Occupational Health” service. Monday, around 1:30 p.m., a man entered the locker room of the unit. He stabbed the nurse and her colleague, a 56-year-old medical secretary. The suspect was arrested as he attempted to flee. He was taken into custody for attempted murder.
The suspect “seems to have acted without apparent motive”
The suspect is a 59-year-old man with a psychiatric history. “The respondent (…) seems to have acted without apparent motive, especially since he did not have an appointment in this service, and was not followed within this service”, said Matthieu Bourrette, prosecutor of Reims. A tragedy that upset the staff of the hospital center. The Minister of Health will bring together the unions and health professionals at the end of the week to try to strengthen the safety of caregivers.
