A Russian missile fire, to destroy one of its own satellites, would have caused thousands of debris in space, endangering the International Space Station (ISS).
As soon as they arrived aboard the International Space Station (ISS), these four astronauts are already back in their Crew Dragon capsule. These three Americans and a German had to take refuge there urgently. As for the three other members already present in the ISS with Thomas Pesquet, an American and two Russian cosmonauts, they are on board a Soyuz capsule.
In question, a cloud of debris which threatens the ISS. Every 90 minutes, it would pass very close to this cloud. For now, no impact can be reported. But, for the United States, there is no doubt that this debris was caused by Russian anti-satellite missile fire. Russia says everything is in order. The trajectory of the debris that appeared yesterday is now being identified to avoid a collision with the ISS.
