Brandon McIntyre pleaded guilty to savagely beating his wife Rebekah Harry in March 2021, who died as a result of his beatings.
Initially charged with second degree murder, he entered his guilty plea on Wednesday morning at the Montreal courthouse on a reduced count of manslaughter. At the same time, he pleaded guilty to assaulting his ex-spouse, who is the mother of their child.
It was at the latter that Rebekah, 29, went on March 19, 2021 with the accused, with whom she had been in a relationship for only three months.
They spent the evening together, drinking alcohol and dancing.
When it was time to go to bed, McIntyre became irritated because Rebekah insisted on sleeping on the same sofa as him. Upset in her turn, she left the living room to go see the other woman without her bedroom. When the accused realized this, he stormed in, insulting Rebekah and slapping her. He then picked her up and threw her against a bassinet in the bedroom. Hitting the furniture with her whole body, she collapsed on the ground, it is indicated in the agreed statement of facts.
This document, filed in court and signed by the accused, made it possible to know what happened that night.
Brandon McIntyre then proceeded to insult and kick her, stomping her as she cowered for protection.
The ex-spouse intervened but he threw her further.
Hungling on Rebekah, McIntyre lifted her by the shoulders and threw her hard to the ground, her head hitting the floor.
Finally ceasing his violent assault, he returned to the living room. After chatting with the other woman for a bit, Rebekah followed him there.
Later, the woman heard McIntyre insult Rebekah again, telling her, “Look at your face, look at your fucking face, you know it’s your fault, huh? by slapping her again, is noted in the agreed statement of facts.
Later, the woman went to see Rebekah who appeared to be sleeping on the sofa in the living room. But she saw that she appeared to be unconscious, saliva and blood pouring from her mouth. She called 911. McIntyre told her to lie and pretend someone else hit the woman.
He was arrested the same day.
Rebekah never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead in hospital.
The autopsy revealed numerous bruises on the face and body of the young woman, mother of a nine-year-old child. The pathologist concluded that the cause of his death was a cerebral hemorrhage caused by head trauma.
McIntyre will return to court in May to hear his sentence.
