Saturday, June 11, some rapeseed producers are seeing the effects of the drought on their crops. They expect low returns.
In Mondragon (Vaucluse), the consequences of the drought on rapeseed are already visible on Saturday June 11. The lack of rain and the ban on pumping water from a diversion channel made it impossible to irrigate the crops. Yields for the season are expected to be particularly low. “In ten years, this is the first year that I have seen such a drought. Since the beginning of January, we have had only 60 millimeters [de pluie]”notes Bastien Sabatier, farmer and service provider in Mondragon.
The rise in cereal prices does not reassure producers, who do not yet know whether they will be able to sell them at a high price. “Yes, the price of cereals is high, but in return, everything else has increased”explains Frédéric Baumet, cereal producer, member of the CAPL Bollène (Agricultural Cooperative of Provence Languedoc).
