Radio-Canada vs. CRTC | The duty

Thank you to Radio-Canada for reminding the CRTC that journalistic independence is essential for all of us.

That we have to make this reminder in front of a public body brings us back to the spirit of the cultural distance between the French world and the English world that characterizes our country.

Unfortunately, Radio-Canada begins its statement by supporting the idea that the same words have the same effects in both languages, which does not correspond to the experience of the society in which we live, nor to the opinion of the best experts. . Radio-Canada recognized this in its previous directives.

This negation of differences is a danger that has always threatened Radio-Canada. For its craftsmen, Radio-Canada is an entity resulting from a French-Canadian culture concentrated in Quebec. It is in this context that the integration of new cultural realities and the necessary adjustment of courses take place, for which the effect of historical errors must sometimes be corrected. But the necessary adjustments to democracy must not jeopardize its fundamental elements. It doesn’t seem to be what people think about it in high places in Toronto and Ottawa. It is useless to deny the differences.
