Queen guitarist Brian May announces minor stroke

(London) Brian May, the lead guitarist for British rock band Queen, revealed on Wednesday that he suffered a “minor stroke” last week, causing him to temporarily lose control of his arm.

The 77-year-old musician said in a video on his website that he was fine but resting and had been advised not to drive, fly or do anything that raises his heart rate too much.

However, he wanted to reassure his fans, indicating that he could still play the guitar after the events of the last few days.

“And I say this because I was in doubt, because this little health problem that I mentioned happened about a week ago. [Avec] what they called a minor stroke, all of a sudden, out of the blue, I had no control over that arm,” he said.

Mr May said the experience had been “a bit scary” but praised the “fantastic care” he received at the local hospital in Surrey, southwest London.

“I really don’t want sympathy,” he added. “Please don’t do this because it will clog up my inbox and I hate that!”

Queen drummer Brian May and Roger Taylor have continued to perform since the death of the band’s lead singer Freddie Mercury in 1991.
