Queen Elisabeth celebrates her platinum jubilee, 70 years of reign celebrated with ease, on Sunday February 6, before the festivities planned for next June. The sovereign has taken a stand for Camilla, the wife of Prince Charles, to be designated as queen consort when he succeeds her.

For the 70th anniversary of her reign, Elisabeth II was filmed in full preparation for her jubilee. At 95, she wants to show that it is still her who decides. On Saturday, February 5, the Queen settled Camilla’s unclear status for the first time. In a press release, the sovereign wishes that she become queen consort on her death, the highest and most prestigious title for the wife of a king. A decision hailed by the Prince of Wales and an announcement widely relayed by all of the British press, which made its headlines on Sunday, February 6.

By marrying the Prince of Wales in 2005, Camilla Parker was to remain in theory princess consort. For the future reigning couple, it is therefore the ultimate official recognition of a love relationship, which began long before the marriage of Charles and Diana. Remained for a long time in the shadow of her rival, Camille was often the unloved. Charles’s wife has now become indispensable to the royal family. Her simplicity and discretion now appeal to many Britons who no longer object to her future status as queen consort.
