The popularity of cryptocurrencies has gained ground over the past year among more and more Quebecers investing in a market known for its volatility, according to a recent survey.
The probe of the Capterra platform, unveiled Thursday, reveals that 60% of Quebec cryptocurrency users have started investing for only a year, while 31% of respondents have already used cryptocurrencies, compared to 25% in Canada.
Across the country precisely, more men invest in this niche, since 66% of them claim to have invested at least in a virtual currency, while women are only 34%, indicating their lack of interest.
The Capterra study finds that young people are more motivated by this new technology, while only 19% of Canadians aged 65 and over plan to invest in digital currencies one day.
“While 1 in 4 Canadians familiar with cryptocurrency use it nationally, the use of virtual currencies is even higher in Quebec. 1 in 3 respondents based in Quebec indicated a current or past use of cryptocurrencies, which shows a greater propensity to try these bold new investments among Quebecers,” commented Tessa Anaya, analyst for this study.
According to the survey, more than half of respondents are interested in getting paid in cryptocurrency, despite the risks associated with it.
“Despite potential concerns about the future of cryptocurrencies, two-thirds of survey respondents (66%) expressed interest in receiving their salary in virtual currency within the next five years,” Ms. Anaya explained.
