“I’m not a vegetarian, but I eat less meat than I used to. I’m a big BBQ fan. I really ate a lot of meat. I was brought up in a context where meat was almost morning, noon, evening, ”he explained in a scrum in Gatineau.
“With climate change, I’m aware that well, there are habits that need to change and I try to eat a little less,” he said.
Don’t expect Mr. Nadeau-Dubois to take up the pen to write a love letter to tempeh. “There are things that I am still trying to tame. There are things that I am not used to eating, ”said the MP for Gouin.
I’m more conservative and straight than people think. I’m still getting used to eating certain things.

Reduce meat production
Mr. Nadeau-Dubois does not believe that the role of the state is to tell citizens what to eat. However, it can modify the menus of cafeterias in the public sector, such as those of schools, hospitals, museums, for example, to offer everyone a vegan option. Indeed, his party proposes to “adopt a food purchasing policy in the public sector including 70% local food and 50% plant-based meals”, as well as to “offer technical and financial support for the transition from conventional to organic farming and reimbursing organic certification”.
Ultimately, the climate plan provides for a reduction in meat production in Quebec, which would be replaced by market gardening. The modeling of its “Vision 2030” by the firm Esmia Consultants, in collaboration with Dunsky Energy + Climate, therefore provided for a “substitution of part of the dairy production and of beef, pork and poultry, as well as grains and cereals intended for animal feed (- 5% to – 12% by 2030 compared to the reference) towards an increase in the production of fruits, vegetables and grains and cereals”.
The parliamentary leader of Québec solidaire also undertakes to “support farmers towards less polluting crops”. He will have the opportunity to present his vision of green agriculture on Wednesday during a meeting with the Union des productions agricole.
