Quebec emergencies: occupancy rate down

The occupancy rate and waiting time in Quebec emergency rooms continued to decrease on Monday, even if certain regions remain particularly affected.

For the entire province, the stretcher occupancy rate was 89% around 9 a.m. Monday.

On Saturday, the rate reached 96% before rising to 89% on Sunday. Remember that last week, it fluctuated between 107% and 125%.

On its website, Index Santé specified Monday that the total number of people in the emergency room was 2,675 at 9 a.m., and that 1,733 stretchers were occupied across Quebec. Also, the average time spent waiting on a stretcher was 15 hours 46 minutes.

Three regions in the red

It was in the Laurentides region that the occupancy rate was the highest Monday morning (113%), particularly at the Mont-Laurier hospital which posted a rate of 260%. The regions of Lanaudière (104%) and Outaouais (104%) also have a rate considered “very high”.

On the island of Montreal, in Laval, in Montérégie, in Mauricie and Centre-du-Québec and in Chaudière-Appalaches the occupancy rate was between 90% and 98%. It was between 76% and 86% in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Saguenay, the Capitale-Nationale and the Côte-Nord.

In Estrie, the occupancy rate was 83%, with a rate of 171% just for the Memphrémagog multiservice health and social services center.

Only Bas-Saint-Laurent (58%) and Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine (43%) have an occupancy rate considered “normal”.
