Quebec director Philippe Lesage rewarded at the Berlinale

The film Like fire by Quebecer Philippe Lesage won the Grand Prix of the international jury in the Generation 14plus section on Friday at the Berlinale.

The filmmaker behind The demons And Genesis In this feature film, it tells the difficult reunion of two friends in a chalet in the middle of the Quebec forest.

The film, which had its world premiere in Berlin, stars Noah Parker, Paul Ahmarani and Arieh Worthalter.

“I am very feverish. It is an ambitious film, rich in dialogue and of good length [2 h 40]so I can’t wait to see how people will react,” Philippe Lesage confided the day before his departure for the German capital.

The filming of Like firewhose title in English, Who by Fire, is inspired by a song by Leonard Cohen, was postponed for a year due to the pandemic. “It’s quite a relief to launch it, finally, in a major festival,” said the director.

The Generation section is dedicated to feature films that focus on youth and adolescence.

“In my film, I wanted to represent how young people, especially those who aspire to an artistic career, can find themselves disillusioned with people who claim to be their mentors,” explained the filmmaker.
