Nine people taken care of by the Red Cross following a violent fire which ravaged a three-storey building in the Saint-Roch district of Quebec.
9-1-1 received a call at 6:17 p.m. Saturday evening to report a fire on the roof of a residential building at 314 rue du Roi, at the corner of rue Dorchester and rue du Roi, in Quebec City. The first firefighters on the scene confirmed that it was indeed a roof fire.
Nine people were taken care of by the Red Cross, but the intervention did not cause any additional victims.
The Quebec City Fire Protection Service (SPCIQ) intervened on Saturday evening, gradually triggering four alarms in an attempt to limit the risk of spread. Hydro-Quebec also interrupted the electricity to facilitate the intervention.
About 65 firefighters were deployed and patrol officers from the Service de police de la Ville de Québec (SPVQ) ensured traffic around the building during the intervention.
The fire chief announced a non-probable worsening at 8:04 p.m., and the Fire Department went to the scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire. The situation was under control at 8:54 p.m., according to a press release from the SPVQ.
