(Drummondville) The Drummondville Voltigeurs fired their head coach Steve Hartley on Wednesday.
Philippe Boucher, general manager of training for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, made the announcement in a press release.
In passing, he made it known that he would occupy the position on an interim basis and that his objective was to find a successor by the next trading period of the QMJHL. This trading period will run from December 17 to January 6.
The Voltigeurs rank fifth in the QMJHL Western Conference with an overall record of 10 wins and nine losses. The team was limited to 54 goals scored in 19 games and allowed 71.
The Voltigeurs have won six of their last 10 games, but lost their last two meetings.
Last weekend, the Voltigeurs played three games in as many days in the Maritimes. After a 5-2 win Friday in Moncton, they lost 4-1 to the Saint-Jean Sea Dogs and 7-1 to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.
“The overall performance of the team since the beginning of the year is below our expectations. We concluded that the team needed a new voice,” Boucher said in the official statement.
Friday night, the Voltigeurs will be back in front of their fans to host the Gatineau Olympiques. The next day, they will visit the Sherbrooke Phoenix, one of the powers of the Courteau circuit this season.
Hartley had been employed by the Voltigeurs organization since the 2016 season.
